SCC Faculty, Staff Train in Life-Saving Skills Through BLS and First Aid Program

Southern Christian College (SCC) reinforced its commitment to campus safety and preparedness through a two-day Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid Training conducted on November 29–30, 2025, at the SCC campus.

The Safety Office, headed by Cynthia M. Tagud, DM, in partnership with the Human Resource Development Office, designed the training for selected faculty members and staff, particularly those assigned to laboratories and instructors who handle laboratory-based classes, where risk exposure requires heightened safety awareness.

The training was facilitated by Mr. Oliver A. Beltran, RMT, EMT, and Mr. Lester T. Singco, RN, EMT, who provided comprehensive instruction on essential life-saving procedures and emergency response protocols. The first day focused on lecture sessions covering fundamental concepts of basic life support, first aid management, and immediate response to common medical emergencies encountered in academic and laboratory settings.

A total of 50 faculty and staff members actively participated in the training. On the second day, participants engaged in return demonstrations and simulation exercises, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge in realistic emergency scenarios. These hands-on activities emphasized proper assessment, correct technique, and teamwork during critical situations, ensuring participants gained practical competence and confidence.

The BLS and First Aid training forms part of SCC’s broader initiative to institutionalize safety as a culture, a ministry, and a way of life within the campus community. By equipping faculty and staff with life-saving skills, the College continues to strengthen its proactive approach to risk management, emergency preparedness, and the holistic well-being of students, employees, and visitors alike.
