Nourishing the Community, Healing the Earth: KLIMA Movement Marks Nutrition Month Finale
The KLIMA Movement took on a nutritious twist on July 31, 2025 as SCC’s future health professionals proved that environmental stewardship is a vital part of public health.
To conclude Nutrition Month, the College of Midwifery and Allied Health Sciences (CMAHS) and the Philippine Association of Nutrition-Sigma Upsilon Chapter partnered with the Midsayap Local Government Unit (LGU) to grow 213 Calamansi (Philippine Lemon) seedlings at Barangay Milaya, a rural community in the Municipality of Midsayap. This initiative bridged the gap between nutrition and ecology, embodying the KLIMA (Kalikasan laging Alagaan, Iisang Mundo Mahalagang Panagutan) spirit of taking responsibility for the world we live in.
The project was supported by the Municipal Nutrition Section (MNS) and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), ensuring that the drive contributed to both food security and ecological rehabilitation. In a display of campus unity, the SCC College of Agriculture also stepped in to donate seedlings.
The CMAHS Student Council designed the initiative as a long-term public health intervention. By choosing Calamansi, they integrated a ‘living pharmacy’ into the landscape. This strategy ensures that as the trees bear fruit, they will provide a renewable source of immune-boosting Vitamin C for the community. This consequently proves that food security is the foundation of public health.
By intertwining health advocacy with the KLIMA Movement, the participants demonstrated that a “healthier and greener Midsayap” is an achievable reality when the community works together.
