Rooting for Resilience: CECD and the KLIMA Movement in Sinapangan
The KLIMA (Kalikasan laging Alagaan, Iisang Mundo Mahalagang Panagutan) Movement expanded its ecological footprint on November 21, 2025 by claiming the hills of Barangay Sinapangan as its newest front. The activity went beyond planting seedlings; it was a strategic reclamation of the local landscape, transforming barren slopes into thriving green corridors.
Recognizing that caring for the Earth requires urgent action, the SCC College of Extension and Community Development (CECD) led an activity targeting Barangay Sinapangan, a rural village, to mitigate local hazards such as landslides through reforestation. This initiative, entitled “Community Engagement for Environmental Conservation,” served as a direct response to the KLIMA call for ecological stewardship.
A dedicated team of 41 students from the CECD Council and Community Development 335 Class, guided by faculty members Ms. Jeanyline M. Alvarado and Mr. Redentor C. Alejado, worked hand-in-hand with local leaders. This collaboration demonstrated that the KLIMA Movement is built on partnership, bridging the gap between the academe and the community to support peace and development.
CECD Dean Mr. Jonathan E. Deluvio redefined the hills of Sinapangan as a living laboratory. He emphasized that for the future Community Developers, true education cannot be confined to four walls; it requires getting one’s hands dirty in the field. This initiative bridges the gap between theory and practice, ensuring that the next generation of leaders understands that environmental stability is the bedrock of community development.
As the activity concluded, the group celebrated not only the trees planted but also the unity that had been cultivated. They left Sinapangan with a reminder that embodies the heart of the KLIMA Movement: One World. Shared Duty. Infinite Hope.
