SCC Scholars Take T.R.E.E.S. and KLIMA to Aleosan

On July 19, 2025, the spirit of Kabayanihan (heroism) came alive in Aleosan as the Bread For The World scholars led a reforestation drive under the banner of the Kalikasan laging Alagaan, Iisang Mundo Mahalagang Panagutan (KLIMA) Movement.

Implementing the T.R.E.E.S. (Together Reforesting & Educating for Environmental Sustainability) Program, the scholars partnered with the youth of Barangay Palacat to address the local environmental risks. The theme,  “Kalikasan, Kabataan, at Kabayanihan: Sama-samang Pagtatanim para sa Ligtas at Luntiang Kinabukasan”,  focused on nature, youth, and heroism. This served as a rallying cry for the 40 young participants to take charge of protecting the Earth.

The scholars executed a targeted Bio-Engineering strategy to protect the village. Recognizing the danger of riverbank collapse, they deployed Bayog bamboo and Molave saplings as a ‘living revetment”.’ As these plants mature, their dense root networks will interlock to anchor the soil, providing a permanent, self-sustaining defense against erosion.

The KLIMA Movement is built on collaboration. The Palacat BLGU and Sangguniang Kabataan provided crucial support, from sourcing saplings to providing meals, while the project scholars did the planting. The seeds planted extend beyond the soil; the partnership has sparked a lasting commitment. The Sangguiniang Kabataan (Youth Council) Chairperson, Hon.  Krisha Glazel Caballero Cantomayor, pledged to continue the KLIMA mission with a youth-led activity in the upcoming Linggo ng Kabataan, ensuring that environmental stewardship continues to flourish in Palacat.
