Greening Midsayap: CECD Mobilizes for KLIMA Tree Growing
Amplifying the call of the KLIMA Movement (Kalikasan laging Alagaan, Iisang Mundo Mahalagang Panagutan), 335 students of College of Extension and Community Development (CECD) at Southern Christian College gathered for an environmental drive in the village of Malamote in Midsayap on December 13, 2024.
The activity is dubbed Community Engagement for Environmental Conservation: The CECD Tree Growing Activity. It served as a practical application of the students’ coursework, merging academic learning with the KLIMA mandate of tangible community service.
The success of this KLIMA-driven initiative was ensured through the steadfast support of the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Midsayap. The local government agency provided the necessary seedlings and planting materials, highlighting the strengthening ties between SCC and the LGU in their unified front for environmental protection.
The event transcended simple afforestation to instill a core tenet of modern community development: Ecological Intelligence. By immersing students in the KLIMA framework, the college demonstrated that true leadership requires understanding that social progress and environmental health are not separate goals, but the same mission. A resilient community cannot be built on a fragile ecosystem.
Organizers noted that this activity embodied the SCC vision to take impactful actions that nurture our environment, driving the community toward the KLIMA goal of a “greener, healthier future.”
