KLIMA Movement Takes Root: SCC and United Board Champion Climate Action in Brgy. Balogo
Strengthening its advocacy for environmental sustainability, Southern Christian College (SCC), in partnership with the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia (UBCHEA), spearheaded a tree-planting activity in the rural village of Balogo in the Municipality of Alamada on September 20, 2025.
The event was a key component of the joint initiative, Scholarship of Engagement: Moving with Communities Towards Climate Action, which aims at fostering grassroots participation in ecological preservation.
Participants rallied under the banner of KLIMA (Kalikasan Laging Alagaan, Isang Mundo Mahalagang Panagutan). This theme served as a powerful mandate, moving beyond a simple slogan to remind the community that caring for our only world is an urgent, collective responsibility.
The tree-planting initiative was led by the SCC Biology Society, demonstrating the active role of the youth and student organizations in driving environmental solutions.
To ensure the sustainability of the project, SCC partnered with the local government unit of Barangay Balogo. This collaboration ensured that the newly planted trees would be monitored and maintained by the community, thus making the event not just a one-day activity but a long-term contribution to the local ecosystem.
More than just an environmental activity, this drive embodies the core mission of SCC and the United Board: to empower communities and foster ecological stewardship through the transformative power of service-learning.
