CTE Conducts First Session of Ebpeiseg V.2 for Youth Writing and Numeracy Development in Sinapangan

The new year signaled a fresh wave of academic intervention for the Southern Christian College (SCC) College of Teacher Education (CTE). After launching the Ebpeisig V.2 on January 31, 2025, the College started its  Writing and Numeracy Enhancement Program with its first session on February 7, 2025.

The initial session was successfully launched at Timuey Anguang B. Campong Integrated School in Barangay Sinapangan, Libungan. Under the leadership of Extension Coordinator Malaya Anawin R. Legurpa, the program mobilized the dedication of CTE faculty and students who stepped out of the campus to ensure that fundamental literacy and mathematical skills were developed among every child in the partner community.

Ebpeiseg V.2 moved beyond traditional tutoring by introducing creative and engaging interventions to make foundational learning both accessible and enjoyable.

To address the challenge of penmanship, the program introduced the ‘Sky, Grass, Ground’ method. By associating letter strokes with familiar physical zones—”Sky” for tall letters, “Grass” for small letters, and “Ground” for tails—this technique transformed abstract rules into a concrete guide. This approach empowered students with the spatial awareness needed to achieve consistent, legible handwriting, turning a technical skill into an engaging activity.

The Program also tackled mathematics through the “Kakuro Puzzle” intervention which included ‘Crosswords for Math.’ Instead of letters, students filled grids with numbers that must sum up to a specific total. This mechanism forced students to perform rapid mental addition and subtraction repeatedly in search of the solution, turning rote calculation drills into an addictive logic challenge.

By integrating these engaging methods, Ebpeiseg V.2 aimed to demonstrate that learning is most effective when it is enjoyable. The program reflects CTE’s deep dedication to employing pedagogically sound practices that motivate students and improve educational outcomes.

The Writing and Numeracy Enhancement Program  serves as a tangible expression of the College’s mandate to go beyond the classroom and actively nurture the growth of its adopted communities. By deploying innovative teaching strategies in Barangay Sinapangan, the CTE is fulfilling its promise to serve as a catalyst for educational empowerment. As the Ebpeiseg V.2 progresses, CTE remains steadfast in its mission to empower young learners, ensuring that the next generation is equipped with the strong academic foundation needed for a brighter future.
