SCC Launches CBA-LEADS: Forging 3-Year Partnership for Community Empowerment under ‘BE TRANSFORMED’ Mandate
The College of Business and Accountancy officially launched the Community-based Business Advances through Livelihood, Entrepreneurship, Advice, Dissemination, and Support (CBA-LEADS) on February 27, 2025, cementing the commitment of the College to sustainable community development. The official launch was spearheaded by Dr. Nelly D. Genosas, Dean of the College of Business and Accountancy (CBA), CBA Extension Coordinator Mr. Noel Marcelo, and Extension Director Mr. Roberto Cambel, alongside the CBA faculty. A dedicated team of 3rd-year BSBA majors in Human Resource Development Management (HRDM) and 4th-year Hospitality Management (BSHM) students facilitated the activity.
The CBA-LEADS three-year horizon allows for a Phased Developmental Roadmap. Unlike traditional ‘touch-and-go’ outreach, this sustained timeline is designed to shift the dynamic over time. Year one focuses on Knowledge Transfer (training), year two on Mentorship (guided application), and year three on Independence — ensuring that by the end of the term, the RIC members are no longer beneficiaries, but self-sufficient entrepreneurs running thriving businesses.
The launch prioritized the program’s core spiritual mandate: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2). Resource speaker, Ms. Analyn Derequito, grounded the event in the psychology of success. Before pivoting to technical business tactics, she facilitated a session focused on value formation and mindset development. By focusing on the “Reformed Men and Women” aspect of the project, this strategy ensured that RIC members possessed the mental resilience required to master the technical training ahead. This approach further established the principle that sustainable entrepreneurship is built on character, not just capital.
The foundation of CBA-LEADS initiative was laid on February 7, 2025 with the signing of a three-year Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Rural Improvement Club (RIC) officers and members in Barangay Sinapangan, Libungan. True to the “Together” component of the BE TRANSFORMED vision, this MOA marks the beginning of a collaborative journey of Southern Christian College and Barangay Sinapangan, a rural village in the Municipality of Libungan. It ensures that the intervention is not a one-off charity event, but a sustained relationship focused on livelihood, entrepreneurship, and business education.
The initiative serves as a direct application of SCC’s extension framework, BE TRANSFORMED Program. By bridging the gap between academic theory and community reality, the project transforms the college’s role from a mere educational provider into an active partner in social progress.
