CAS Solidifies Partnership with Brgy. Sinapangan through the ‘MALACAS’ Program
The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) solidified its community engagement strategy on October 24, 2025, with the official launch of the MALACAS (Makabuluhang Aksiyon at Lingkod Aral ng College of Arts and Sciences) Program at the Barangay Hall of Sinapangan. Through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement, the College established a structured framework for its ‘Caring and Sharing’ initiatives, ensuring that future extension projects are aligned with Southern Christian College’s mandate for sustainable community service under the BE TRANSFORMED Program.
The event was attended by 14 key stakeholders, including barangay officials and officers from local people’s organizations. Signatories in the Memorandum of Agreement included the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Barangay Chairman representing the local government unit, and the President of the Senior Citizens’ Organization representing the People’s Organizations. This tripartite agreement operationalized the College’s core philosophy of treating community members not as passive recipients of aid, but as active partners in their own development and growth. It outlines a shared roadmap for implementation, ensuring that the benefits of the project are mutual and sustainable.
The program culminated in a symbolic Lamp Lighting Ceremony, a ritual embodying the College’s mission of ‘renewing the mind.’ This passing of the flame represented more than just a formality; it signified the active transfer of critical knowledge—from academic halls to the hands of the community. By illuminating the path to self-reliance, the ceremony underscored the college’s commitment to breaking down the barriers of poverty through accessible, practical education.
The MALACAS Project was grounded on the results of a Training Needs Assessment (TNA) conducted earlier in the village of Sinapangan. Under the guidance of the Extension Director, a 10-member faculty team developed a comprehensive program tailored to the village’s diverse sectoral needs. Embodying the spirit of service that extends beyond the classroom, they successfully transformed an initial academic proposal into a living partnership through rigorous coordination and seamless on-ground execution.
With the MOA signed and the community oriented, the College of Arts and Sciences is now poised to roll out specific programs designed to empower the residents and organizations of Barangay Sinapangan
