SCC College of Agriculture Community Brings “BE TRANSFORMED” Mission to Agkir-Agkir; Targets Low-Income Households in ‘Love-Giving’ Drive

A holistic outreach program anchored in service, education, and community empowerment was carried out by the College of Agriculture at Agkir-Agkir Elementary School on December 7 to 9, 2024, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s flagship BE TRANSFORMED Program.

Embodying a spirit of unified service, the initiative mobilized the full strength of the College of Agriculture. Faculty, staff, and students stood side by side for a common cause, breaking the traditional boundaries of the campus to immerse themselves in the remote Agkir-Agkir community in the Municipality of Libungan. In doing so, they proved that the college’s mission extends far beyond the four walls of the classroom.

To nurture their educational journey, the college distributed essential kits, including notebooks, pencils, and ballpoint pens—relieving the financial burden on parents struggling to equip their children for school. Additionally, acknowledging the physical challenges many children face when walking long distances, the team donated new slippers and conducted a feeding program to address immediate nutritional needs.

At the core of the mission was a deep commitment to holistic care and renewal. The activity specifically prioritized pupils belonging to low-income households, ensuring they acquired the necessary school supplies for the upcoming school year. Serving as a “love-giving” activity for its partner community, the event was a tangible application of the college’s commitment to service, targeting the most vulnerable sectors of the barangay.

Stepping up as more than just donors, the agriculture students became role models and mentors, acting as “Big Brothers and Sisters” for the day. This personal connection transformed the classroom dynamic, turning potentially intimidating lessons into moments of shared discovery and learning.

The event’s success highlighted a spirit of continuous progress and resilience. By addressing immediate economic needs while fostering deep relationships, the College of Agriculture demonstrated a steadfast commitment to the long-term well-being of local schools, helping ensure that the community of Agkir-Agkir can advance toward a more equitable and educated future.
