Mindset Over Market: SCC Graduates Fortified for the Mental Challenges of the Workforce

Southern Christian College (SCC) took a decisive step in safeguarding the future well-being of its students by hosting the annual Job Basic Entry Skills (JBES) seminar on May 9, 2025. Organized by the Guidance and Testing Services Unit (GTSU) at the SCC Fellowship Center, the event went beyond standard resume workshops to address the psychological readiness required for the professional world.

The transition from the structured environment of academia to the unpredictable labor market is often a primary source of anxiety for young adults. Under the theme “Step into Success: Preparing Today’s Graduates for Tomorrow’s Opportunities,” the seminar was designed as a proactive intervention to mitigate this stress.

By providing a clear roadmap of what lies ahead, the activity aimed to replace the fear of the unknown with the confidence of preparation. The program acknowledges that a prepared mind is a resilient mind, ensuring students embark on their new journey with emotional stability rather than apprehension.

The centerpiece of the seminar was a session led by resource speaker Mr. Dominic B. Cabalinan, RN. His talk, titled “From Cap to Career: Smart Job Hunting Tips for New Graduates,” focused on bridging the gap between academic theory and industry reality—a chasm where many fresh graduates often experience “imposter syndrome” or burnout.

Mr. Cabalinan transformed the job hunt from a guessing game into a strategic campaign. He warned against the exhausting practice of ‘spray and pray’ applications, advocating instead for targeted searches that preserve mental energy. Furthermore, he tackled the anxiety of high-stakes interviews by arming students with persuasive communication techniques, proving that preparation is the ultimate antidote to performance stress.

The JBES seminar reflects SCC’s commitment to holistic education. By pairing academic excellence with practical career readiness, the institution ensures that its graduates are not only intellectually capable but also mentally fortified to handle rejection, navigate office dynamics, and sustain their well-being as they build their careers.
