As part of its continuing commitment to fostering inclusive and learner-centered education, Southern Christian College (SCC) conducted a training session titled “Teaching the Whole Child: Actionable Interventions for Students with Autism, ADHD, and Diverse Needs” on July 31, 2026.
Ms. Gemma G. Atkinson, MEd, MA, Special Education Instruction Specialist from the Bellevue Union School District in Santa Rosa, California, USA, served as the resource speaker of the training. Drawing on her extensive experience in special education and inclusive instructional practices, Ms. Atkinson shared practical strategies and evidence-based interventions that educators can apply to support learners with diverse developmental, behavioral, and learning needs.
Participants included teachers from the Elementary Training Department, Junior High School, and Senior High School, as well as personnel from the Guidance and Testing Services Unit.
Throughout the session, attendees explored approaches to creating supportive learning environments, implementing classroom accommodations, promoting positive behavior, and strengthening collaboration among teachers, families, and support services to ensure that every learner has the opportunity to succeed.
The activity highlighted the importance of understanding students holistically and responding to their unique strengths and challenges through intentional and compassionate educational practices.
It also reinforced SCC’s commitment to whole person education by equipping educators with the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse student population.
The training supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by promoting inclusive and equitable quality education for all learners, particularly those who require specialized support and interventions.
By strengthening teachers’ capacity to address diverse learning needs, SCC continues to contribute to the creation of more accessible, inclusive, and effective educational environments.
