Demonstrating its commitment to internationalization, cultural understanding, and quality higher education, Southern Christian College (SCC) actively participated in the ASEAN 2026 launching organized by the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office XII (CHEDRO XII)-Transnational Higher Education Office from August 4 to 6, 2026, in Koronadal City.
Bringing together higher education institutions across Region XII, the three-day celebration served as a platform for cultural exchange, regional cooperation, and appreciation of the rich diversity of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The event highlighted the shared aspirations of ASEAN member states toward inclusive development, educational excellence, and stronger people-to-people connections.
SCC is part of the Fourth Cluster of participating higher education institutions, representing the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR). Through its designated country representation, the team showcased various cultural and educational displays that reflected the traditions, identity, and contributions of Laos within the ASEAN community, as well as the IZN initiatives and milestones of its member institutions.
One of the highlights of SCC’s participation was Team 4’s exhibit booth, which also featured the institution’s locally produced SCC Wine in its Mulberry and Coco variants. The products drew the attention of visitors and fellow participants, highlighting the College’s support for local innovation, entrepreneurship, and community-based products. The exhibit not only promoted the institution’s unique offerings but also underscored the importance of preserving and elevating local resources within the context of regional cooperation and cultural appreciation.
In addition to the exhibit showcase, student representatives from SCC’s Recognized Clubs and Organizations actively engaged in various workshops and learning sessions facilitated by the participating clusters. These workshops provided opportunities for students to deepen their understanding of ASEAN cultures, regional issues, leadership, intercultural communication, and collaborative problem-solving. Through meaningful interaction with fellow student leaders from different institutions, SCC students gained valuable perspectives that contribute to their development as globally aware and culturally responsive individuals.
The College’s participation in the ASEAN Celebration aligns with its ongoing efforts to strengthen internationalization initiatives and cultivate a learning environment that values diversity, inclusivity, and global citizenship. By engaging in activities that promote intercultural dialogue and regional cooperation, SCC continues to prepare its students to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
Moreover, the event supports the College’s quality assurance objectives by exposing students and institutional representatives to best practices, collaborative networks, and educational innovations within the ASEAN region.
