Southern Christian College (SCC) formally launched its month-long ASEAN 2026 celebration today, August 3, 2026.
The observance began at 6:00 a.m. with the Monday Morning Devotion. The gathering was followed by a college-wide flag ceremony attended by administrators, faculty members, staff, and students.
A key highlight of the opening program was the message delivered by SCC President Dr. Edwin T. Balaki, who emphasized the importance of solidarity among nations in Southeast Asia. In his address, Dr. Balaki provided a brief historical overview of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), tracing its establishment in 1967 and its continuing role in promoting peace, stability, economic cooperation, and mutual development among its member states.
He underscored the many opportunities ASEAN offers its people, particularly in education, cultural exchange, trade, and regional partnerships. Dr. Balaki also encouraged the SCC community to appreciate the diversity of Southeast Asia while embracing the shared values that unite its nations.
The opening activities marked the start of a month-long celebration featuring various ASEAN-related programs to deepen awareness of the region’s cultures, histories, and aspirations. Through these activities, SCC reaffirms its commitment to internationalization and whole-person education by preparing students to become globally minded individuals who can contribute meaningfully to both local and international communities.
As ASEAN continues to strengthen cooperation among its member countries, SCC joins educational institutions across the region in celebrating the organization’s enduring vision of unity, progress, and shared prosperity.
