Southern Christian College opened its 77th Foundation Anniversary on October 1 with a series of activities that brought together students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and friends of the institution across the SCC campus and surrounding communities.
The four-day celebration, held under the theme “Responsive Education for Societal Empowerment and Transformation (RESET),” formally began with an Opening Fellowship, where the SCC community gathered for worship and thanksgiving. SCC President Dr. Edwin T. Balaki officially declared the anniversary celebration open, marking the start of activities running from October 1 to 4.
Following the opening program, members of the SCC community took the celebration beyond the campus through the 77th Foundation Anniversary Motorcade. Administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends joined the procession, bringing the anniversary celebration into the communities around SCC and highlighting the institution’s continuing connection with the people it serves.
Several activities also opened on campus throughout the day.
At the SCC Admin Lobby, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Neyrma Cabatac led the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the SCC@77 Book Fair 2026. The two-day fair brought book dealers and publishers together with faculty, staff, and students, providing opportunities to browse, select, and purchase books and other learning resources.
The anniversary program also included activities focused on the well-being and interaction of the SCC community. The Guidance and Testing Services Unit held “Kape at Kamustahan,” a coffee conversation for faculty and staff that provided an informal setting for participants to talk, share experiences, and check in with one another.
Meanwhile, the opening of Handayag Fest 2026 focused on creativity and collaboration. Participating teams from the HEU, SBE, and Elementary units presented their booths under the theme “Celebrating 7 Legacies, Embracing 7 Possibilities.” The booths were subsequently toured and evaluated by the panel of judges as teams showcased their concepts and preparations.
Alumni and friends also returned to the SCC campus for the Pickleball Open Play and Basketball Exhibition Match at the Fellowship Center. The sporting activities provided an avenue for former students and members of the SCC community to reconnect while taking part in the anniversary festivities.
Taken together, the activities marked a busy opening day for SCC’s 77th Foundation Anniversary, with programs that moved across worship, community engagement, learning, employee well-being, creativity, and sports.
More activities are scheduled throughout the remaining days of the celebration as SCC continues to mark 77 years of its history and reflect on its continuing role in education and service.
Day 1 has come to a close. The 77th Foundation Anniversary continues.
